The L8, Gr8, Kobe Bryant had stated that he felt like one of his superpowers was his ability to maintain his focus on one specific thing and to keep his focus on that one thing until he has obtained his goal. I believe that the ability to keep focus on one specific thing throughout the game and in life is something all of the greats have. It doesn't matter if we look at athletes such as Kobe Bryant or legendary scientists such as Charles Darwin (who stated that he could think about things longer than other people), the greats have an uncanny almost indescribable ability to block out all other distractions and focus on the task at hand.
Many star athletes have even went as far as to create alter egos in order to separate and compartmentalize their personal life from the athlete that they are. Michael Jordan had "The Black Cat/ Black Panther or Black Jesus", Kobe had "The Black Mamba", Deion Sanders had "Primetime", and other athletes have other "characters" that they create to help them focus solely on the game.
The fact of the matter is that we all operate at a default level of focus. Our minds allow us to emit a specific amount of focus on the task at hands in order to simply complete it. However, there is a much deeper level of focus required in order to win and DOMINATE at something.
The question I have is:
Can you go deeper?
Yes, You Can!
Let's say your default level of focus is at an 8.
How can we get it to a 9 or 10 and stay there as long as needed to score the win?
After all, one of the main things that separates winners from other people is the ability to NOT be controlled by distractions and to remain focused until the task the done (Securing The Win!)
Remember to consciously pull that extra level of focus out during practice, while doing drills, working out, during the games, and any other time you can. Practice activating the EXTRA level of focus in practice and it will be much easier to activate it in the game!
The person who wins is the person who keeps his or her focus longer.
Through It All...WIN!
